So I am doing counseling sessions at my church. Don't worry, nothing is wrong with me... well I mean, nothing is mentally or physically wrong... everyone is faulty in some way and broken in some way and therefore need help. I started going because my previous best friend just decided out of the blue to stop talking to me this past summer and I have therefore not had a best friend for the past 6 months almost. It was really heart breaking to go through, but I have gotten past it little by little. Anywho, I went to a counselor at my church mostly because my mom was worried but also because I thought it wouldn't hurt to get some tips on how to live life. My counselor, who I am going to call Mary in this blog is an awesome lady. She is a bit older and has been married for forever, has a great relationship with her husband, says things like "tickle me pink" and is always praising me for being an awesome lady.... she is pretty much everything you want in a friend and counselor.
This week she told me about how her husband and she started dating. It was the most adorable story I have ever heard. Because I am trying to not use real names in this blog, I am going to call her husband James. Once upon a time......
Mary was a shy girl in her high school years (if you met her now you would not believe it), she wasn't one to go after boys or even look at them per say. She was fairly sheltered too, as often enough her parents didn't let her do much socially, she hadn't even ever been to a football game. There she was 18 years old, she had never dated any boy and she didn't go out much (nothing's wrong with that, in fact I can totally identify, hence why she told me this story I am sure). James was a popular boy but he was in college already and because he was at a college far away from the church Mary went to he only attended on weekends when he was in town. The two had known each other before this, but hadn't interacted (remember our protagonist is shy!). So, one weekend James was hanging out with one of the pastors (a really awesome pastor who must have been like best buds with all the youth because he is a very vital part of this story). James asked the pastor for a list of girls who he could potentially go out on a date with on weekends. The pastor looked at him and raised his eyebrows while grinning ,"You don't need a list of girls' names, you need one name."
"All right, who?"
"Mary Johnson (I know I am picking the most unoriginal names ever, just bear with me)."
James laughed and blushed a little, for he thought she was cute, but he was surprised, "Mary Johnson.... she doesn't even look at me. She wouldn't want to go out with me, she completely ignores me at church."
-Mary assured me that this was true, she did ignored James, but only because she was shy, in reality she had a huge crush on him.-
The pastor chuckled and shook his head, "Trust me, she has been wanting to go out with you. Call her, right now and ask her out... you will see."
James looked at the pastor suspiciously but he knew it was worth a try. He called Mary up right then and there at the pastor's house on his phone in front of him. James smiled but in reality he was fairly nervous, "Hello Mary? I was wondering if you would like to go out with me on Saturday night. There is a rally at my school and there will be music and food." (I am sure the conversation had a different beginning and he didn't cut right to the chase, but I just decided for the sake of shortening this post I would get right to it).
Now, you can imagine Mary... sitting at home, sick with the German measles (oh, I forgot to mention that she was sick with something called the German measles... or whatever and it was some kind of rash thing) and all of a sudden her crush James calls her asking her out. Mary was just about healed of the German measles and felt like she could say yes but she wanted to ask permission first. She tried to cover her big black phone with her hands so James couldn't hear and she looked at her mom with excitement in her face ,"James Tyler (unoriginal last name, I KNOW!) is asking me to go out with him on a date Saturday night!"
Mary's mother, I am sure smiled, and told her she thought she would be well enough to go. Mary very calmly put the phone back up to her ear and said ,"I would love to go out with you Saturday night James." And they both hung up.... well, they probably sorted out some details, but I only got certain specifics on this story.
James hung up the phone and looked at the pastor impressed, "She said yes." He was still confused and shocked, happy of course, but shocked all the same.
The pastor still had is knowing grin, "Wait five minutes, she is going to call me."
James eyes widened ,"What?!"
"You'll see." the pastor laughed. Surely enough about 4 minutes, 30 seconds later Mary called the pastor.
"James Tyler just asked me out on a date!" She squealed into the phone.
James proceeded to fall onto the floor in fits of laughter. And the two went out on that date and dated for two years. At 20 years old Mary and James got married and four years later had their first kid.And it was all because of that matchmaking pastor.
By the way, I made up a lot of the descriptions of the story, like James smiling and the pastor chuckling, but the actual story is all very true and very sweet.
